Singles on Sailboats Reduced Membership Fee

Singles on Sailboats (SOS) is offering a special membership fee of $50 (reduced from $95) for new members who join before November 1st. Membership is open to single adults who would like to sail with other single people who have a common interest in sailing and enjoying the Chesapeake Bay.
SOS is a non-profit organization with almost 700 members from Maryland, Virginia, DC and Pennsylvania who share a love of sailing and the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition to weekend cruising and day sails, SOS offers educational seminars including on-shore and on-the-water opportunities to enhance sailing skills. There are also monthly brunches during the winter months and many social activities including theme parties, dinners and dances throughout the year.

Seeking Liberty: Annapolis, An Imagined Community

In 2008, the right to citizen-elected representation in Annapolis will be 300 years old. The city charter granted to Annapolis in 1708 gave the city political reality. With this exhibit we commemorate the current anniversary by celebrating the quest for liberty. Many of these artifacts have never been on display for the public before this. Visit the exhibit which will be on display at the Banneker-Douglas Museum in Annapolis from February through November 2008. There will also be a few smaller exhibits open to the public at some of the sites involved in the exhibit. The exhibition was funded by a grant from Preserve America. This exhibition features a free cell phone audio tour generously funded by a grant from the Four Rivers Heritage Area.

Latin Jazz in "the Coolest Backyard in Town"

Contemporary music in a centuries-old garden: singer-songwriter Sonya Vallet performs with her group. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., allowing guests to walk through the William Paca House on their way to stake out a space in the Garden for the evening. Concert-goers are invited to spread blankets on the lawn or sit in chairs on the breezy terrace and bring a picnic dinner or pre-order a supper box prepared by Galway Bay. This garden concert is the fourth and final in a series of monthly outdoor performances hosted by Historic Annapolis Foundation this summer.

Canoe Excursion

Paddle along the shores of Muddy Creek and the Rhode River to learn about one of the many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. We'll look for wildlife, birds, reptiles, and more. This trip is designed for beginning and intermediate paddlers. Basic instruction will be given at the start of the program. Navy Way Boot Camp

Basic Boot Camp runs from 10 a.m. to noon for recruits 6-12. Recruits are issued a sailor's cap, learn Navy terms, march, chant, follow order and eat in a simulated
mess. Cost is $32.00 and includes "Dixie cup" cap, boot camp, lunch (two slices of pizza and soda) and a certificate of participation, which each Swabbie receives at a graduation ceremony.
Advanced Boot Camp runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and is
for graduates of Basic Boot Camp and who are between the ages of nine and 12. Swabbies take seamanship training (tying knots), learn how to use semaphore flags and march in precision drill. Cost is $32.00 (with cap) or $37.00
(if purchasing new cap) and includes all training materials. Graduates attain the rank of Swabbie 1st Class and receive a certificate of participation and a button for their "Dixie cup" cap at graduation.

The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center is located inside Gate 1 of the U.S. Naval
Academy. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Guided walking tours of the
Academy are $8.00 adults, $7.00
seniors (62+) and $6.00 students (1st - 12th grades). Pre-schoolers are
free.
Visitors may walk in Gate 1 (King George Street). Only vehicles with DOD
stickers or handicapped tags may drive
onto the Yard. Visitors 16 and older must have a photo ID. Parking at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Rowe Boulevard is recommended. Parking also is available at the parking garage on Main Street.
